In my office, I see medical errors, uncaring nurses and staff, and it’s sometimes easy to get a negative view of the medical profession in general.
But Hurricane Sandy, which brought so much devastation to the New York/New Jersey area also showed us that there are many healthcare professionals who are true heroes. This week’s Hero Award goes to the nurses and staff at NYU Langone Medical Center, who carried babies from their neonatal intensive care unit down nine flights of stairs to evacuate from the storm. Four of these infants were on respirators and had to be hand-bagged during the evacuation. These nurses and staff show us what true heroism is all about. Bravo.
