Only 1 in 5 malpractice claims against doctors results in the injured victim getting a settlement, according to a study recently published by the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
The study went on to say that each year, 1 in 14 doctors is the target of a claim. The most commonly sued doctors are neurosurgeons and heart surgeons. Pediatricians and psychiatrists were sued the least.
So, it’s easy for the media to talk about frivolous lawsuits, but these cases take wheelbarrows full of money to pursue, and the odds of winning are not in favor of the victim. No attorney in his right mind would take a frivolous case against a doctor or hospital.
